A delicate composition emerges on fine paper, drawn with pencil, painted with acrylics and watercolors, and accented with reflective gold elements. Layers of pigment and subtle mark-making create a sense of depth, fragility, and quiet tension.

Circular in form, the piece seems to rotate gently in the viewer’s eye. At its center is a face — it could be yours, mine, or someone we might have passed by. The features are rendered with both intimacy and abstraction, inviting a reflection on identity, presence, and the fleeting depth of human encounter.

The space surrounding the central form is open yet intentional, inviting contemplation and pause.

“Above the Wheel” evokes cycles, perspectives, and the overlooked details that orbit our attention. Its circular format reinforces themes of rotation, reflection, and contained energy, while the subtle textures suggest a conversation between permanence and impermanence.

This work is part of a series I began in 2020, exploring brief encounters with people I met only once. The shortness and unfamiliarity of these meetings revealed a depth often absent in long-term friendships or family ties. This piece originates from that series.
