This portrait began with Bobbino, my own dog, and the particular way he looks at me — a gaze that says more than words ever could.

There’s a version of me that only he sees. Not the woman performing competence, holding it together, playing the roles the world hands her — but the one underneath all of that. Animals don’t ask you to be anything. They just look at you, and somehow that look strips away every mask. This series grew out of that: an unmasking, portrait by portrait, of who I am when no one is watching except a dog.

Originally painted in watercolor, it’s built from soft washes and expressive linework — loose where it needs to breathe, precise where it needs to hold a feeling. Hand-applied highlights catch the light differently depending on where you stand, giving the surface a quiet, living quality that a print alone rarely has.
